Beaches under the council’s care and control are declared dog exercise areas, with the exceptions named in the policy. Fannie Bay is not one of those exceptions. Off leash is allowed in an exercise area when the dog is immediately responsive, not in season, and the owner carries a leash. A lead is still required on a shared path and during organised sport.
- All year
- All day: off leash. Outside those times: off leash.
On or within 10 metres of a shared path, and during organised sport, the dog must be on a lead.
City of Darwin has declared all parks, ovals, reserves, gardens and beaches under Council’s care and control, with the exception of East Point Reserve, Gardens Oval One and Nightcliff Oval, as declared dog exercise areas.

- The council page does not set a crocodile or stinger rule. Box jellyfish are a summer risk in Darwin Harbour, and crocodiles live in these waters. This tool does not turn that into a dog rule. Check the beach signs and NT government safety advice before you go in the water.
The map pin is a guide at -12.4320, 130.8320. It is not the boundary between groynes, access tracks or signed zones.
